Working with your home-educated child.

Why I love working with them:

I work with EOTAS (Education Other Than At School) and with the private exam companies (such as Tutors and Exams and 3A Tutors), where I externally invigilate for private and home‑educated students.

I love tutoring home‑educated students. I find it incredibly rewarding to work with young people who are eager to learn and who have the freedom to explore their interests at their own pace. I also enjoy the flexibility of working one‑to‑one, which allows me to tailor my teaching to each student’s individual needs.

One of the things I value most about tutoring home‑educated students is the sense of community. I have met some wonderful families and students through this work, and I have learned so much about different educational philosophies and home‑education methods. I also appreciate the opportunity to be part of the home‑education community and to support families on their educational journey.

Of course, tutoring home‑educated students can also be challenging. Parents often find it difficult to stay on track with the curriculum, and it can be hard to strike the right balance between challenge and support. This is where I come in: I know what each student needs to learn should their parents want them to follow some or all of the curriculum appropriate for their age, especially as they prepare for GCSE or BTEC exams.

However, the rewards far outweigh the challenges. I love seeing students learn and grow, and I am genuinely grateful for the opportunity to be part of their educational journey.

Why I love tutoring home‑educated students

  • One‑to‑one flexibility — I enjoy the freedom to adapt lessons to each student.

  • Individualised teaching — I can tailor my approach to their specific needs and goals.

  • Learning from families — I gain insight into a wide range of educational philosophies and methods.

  • Making a difference — I know I’m having a positive impact on my students’ lives.

If you are considering home educating your child, I encourage you to explore tutoring as a way to supplement their education. It can provide the individualised attention they need to thrive and help you connect with other home‑educating families in your area.
